Over two days in May a series of special events at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Medical School demonstrated the energy and excitement driving the Transforming Medicine Campaign as it passed the $200 million mark on its way to the goal of $250 million.
The primary focus of these events was the future C. Everett Koop Medical Science Complex, which will include the Peter and Susan Williamson Translational Research Building, a new home for The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, and connecting the two, LeBaron Commons.
A standing-room-only crowd gathered for the academic symposium that kicked off the Transforming Medicine Campaign's Gala Weekend. The Friday afternoon seminar, "Celebrating the Vision: Translational Medicine", showcased examples of the primary translational research programs that will occupy new facilities in the Koop Complex when it's built.
Capping off the two-day series of meetings, activities, and events, more than 500 people attended The Gala 2008. The event brought together Campaign leaders and donors, DMS faculty and alumni, College and Medical Center leadership, and community members to celebrate the successes of the Campaign to date and advance the vision it embodies. The black-tie event raised $1.126 million for the Koop Medical Science Complex and helped to push the Transforming Medicine Campaign over the $200 million mark.
