Supporters of the Transforming Medicine Campaign gathered the annual appreciation reception in September to celebrate the progress of the Campaign as it enters its final year. A tradition for over two decades, the reception is an opportunity for supporters to come together with DHMC and DMS leaders and learn how their generosity improves the lives of those in our community and beyond.
Thanking donors for their support, Vice President for Development Brian Lally spoke of the critical role that philanthropy plays in helping to realize Dartmouth medicine's ambitious vision. Dr. George Blike, DHMC's Quality and Patient Safety Officer, gave the evening's keynote address, describing the quality improvement processes and facilities that are integral to DHMC's commitment to delivering effective, efficient, timely, and safe care for every patient.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2008 Outstanding Community Ambassador Award to longtime DHMC volunteer Shirley Reid. This annual award recognizes an individual who exemplifies the Medical Center's commitment to its community. Accepting the award, Ms. Reid said, "I'm a member of the Upper Valley community largely because of the life-saving and excellent medical care that I got here back in 1995, which prompted me to move to this area from Montpelier. I want to thank you for the opportunity to contribute to DHMC and to bring that community perspective—which is the reason for this award—to the work here at DHMC, so that we will all accomplish the vision, the research, and the practice that benefit all of us who live in this area."
