2009 Employee Giving Campaign Tops $1 million
DHMC's third annual Employee Giving Campaign wrapped up on August 31st with a tremendous show of support by DHMC staff. 1400 employees participated in this year's campaign, raising more than $1 million. This outstanding show of support demonstrates once again the commitment of DHMC's staff to creating and sustaining excellence in health care.
Community Raises Millions for Children's Health, Cancer Research
Cyclists, runners, walkers, golfers, motorcyclists, skiers, hockey fans, NASCAR fans—no matter what a person's interests, age, or ability, the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) and the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center (FNCCC) offer a menu of almost two dozen fundraising events each year to engage community members in supporting children's care and cancer research. And they do—by the thousands.
The CHaD Half-Marathon on August 29th raised $225,000 for research and patient care at CHaD. Almost 900 runners participated, either in 3-person relay teams or running the full 13.1-mile course, while more than 400 children and their families joined in a 1-mile fun run. Hundreds more turned out to support the runners, many of them dressed in superhero costumes to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest ever gathering of superheroes. Read more...

Population Health
Dartmouth-Hitchcock's vision of achieving the healthiest population possible is generating excitement and strong support from donors. Recent commitments to the Campaign include $2 million for The Dartmouth Institute's new Center for Population Health. Led by Dr. Elliott Fisher, this new initiative seeks to identify prevention strategies that produce measurable reductions in the rate of disease and quantifiable improvements in the region's health. Another donor is providing three years of seed funding for a new health promotion initiative that will integrate and build on an array of existing disease prevention programs across Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Norris Cotton Cancer Center.
Unrestricted Giving
Both DMS and DHMC have set ambitious annual fund targets - of $600,000 and $930,000, respectively - for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2009. Unrestricted giving to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Annual Fund (DHAF) and the Fund for Dartmouth Medical School (FDMS) plays a vital role in advancing the academic medical center's commitment to excellence in patient care, research, and teaching. By their very nature, unrestricted gifts target institutional priorities because they offer the flexibility to be used in support of critical needs and opportunities not funded by other means.
